A complete analysis of the higher-dimensional Brans-Dicke cosmologies in N = 1 + d + D dimensions is presented. Perfect fluid generalizations of the Chodos-Detweiler (CD) vacuum solutions are obtained. It is concluded that the CD mechanism, i.e., the existence of solutions where the d space is expanding while the D space is contracting is valid in the case of a vacuum as well as in the perfect fluid case.
