I review a short, idiosyncratic list of key problems at the interface of the field of the first stars and the fossil record, which I believe will hold our attention over the next few years. These include (1) how to use the fossil record in a synthesis with high-redshift data, (2) how to test the first-stars IMF, and (3) how to study the earliest metal-enriched stars in the innermost regions of the Milky Way halo.
