We propose to observe the candidate young globular cluster Cygnus OB2 for 100ksec with ACIS-I. This region has been found to contain about 2600 OB stars, from which an even larger population of low mass stars is inferred. We estimate that the proposed observation will detect about 2000 stars, putting contraints on the cluster population above one solar mass. Moreover we expect to detect hundreds of stars with shallow convective zones, whose X-ray emission will be studied with unprecedented detail. The X-ray emission of these stars changes abruptly during their evolution, and very few stars in this stage are found in less rich regions. These data will provide important clues to the yet unclear mechanism responsible for the X-ray emission of this class of stars and of PMS stars in general.
