We present an analysis of the relativistic electronic structure of the 1×1 H/W(110) surface. Our calculations reproduce in detail the experimentally determined Fermi surface and spin polarization of the surface electron states. A projected spin-polarized density of states is defined in order to simulate the photoemission spectra exhibiting very good agreement with existing spin-resolved measurements. Our calculations confirm that the spin-split states, S1 and S2, are approximately circularly spin polarized with respect to the high-symmetry point \skew3\bar{S} . Moreover, we present the precise shape and magnitude of the spin polarization of the spin-orbit split S1 and S2 states, through the entire Brillouin zone.
