Unified Theories And Models Of Strong And Electroweak Interactions

We impose a Z2 discrete symmetry, called L parity, on the E6 superpotential. We find that, by appropriate assignments of L parity to the chiral superfields in the 27 of E6, it is possible to obtain a very light νe, without violating bounds from conventional proton decay. There are also no conflicts with bounds from unconventional proton decay, neutrinoless double-β decay, and cosmology. In the most attractive scenario, we find that, in addition to a very light Majorana νe, we obtain a charged lepton E and two weak isodoublet neutrinos, all with masses ~100 GeV. Furthermore, while the rates for rare processes, such as neutrinoless double-β decay, are small, they may be measurable.
