It is shown that the modification of Newton's potential, following from a deviation of the number of spatial dimensions from the integer value of 3, can also be obtained in the usual four-dimensional context, provided that the SO(3, 1) gauge symmetry of gravity is broken. The experimental data on the periastron shifts of orbiting bodies can be then used to obtain a bound on the possible degree of violation of the local Lorentz symmetry on astronomical length scales.
