Newman and Rovelli have introduced generalized singular Hamilton-Jacobi transformations to solve the gauge and diffeomorphism constraints in the Ashtekar formalism. However, this solution does not have a Minkowski space limit. Starting from the linearized constraints, Goldberg and Robinson were able to find a solution, but their solution cannot be related to that of Newman and Rovelli. In this paper, the linearized solution is generalized and the Newman-Rovelli result is modified to have a Minkowski space limit. Unfortunately, the scalar constraint remains an unsolved problem.
