The Ultra-Deep Field will provide a unique opportunity to search for faint transients on many time-scales. Strongly- lensed supernovae at very high redshift, flashes from shock- breakout of core-collapse events and possibly orphan gamma-ray burst afterglows may be detected in time-resolved imaging at ultra-faint magnitudes. We propose to search for transients of all kinds and to use color, light curve and host information to determine their origin. We expect to find between 10 and 30 core-collapse supernovae in UDF which will place interesting limits on the prompt star formation rate at redshifts up to z=4. We estimate the chances of finding one of the more exotic transients at between 10% and 50%, but the uncertainty is large and observations are the best way to answer the question.
