Simulation experiments were conducted in which the magnetosphere was modeled by a hydrogen plasma created by an electrodynamic accelerator in a vacuum chamber. The purpose of the experiment was to study convection in the polar cap at small Alfven Mach numbers (about 1.5). It is found that this convection is primarily induced by the reconnection of dipole field lines and by plasma flow; convection due to 'viscous' interaction of the plasma flow with the magnetosphere is also observed. The relative role of each of these processes is apparently determined by the Alfven Mach number.
