A maximum likelihood technique is used to analyze the measured solar neutrino capture rate in order to test various hypotheses regarding its time dependence. A capture rate anticorrelated with sunspot numbers gives a better fit to the data than a constant capture rate, but the goodness-of-fit for the two hypotheses is not significantly different. We also find that the statistical significance of the results are dependent on the confidence levels assumed for the very low capture rate runs.
