The present study of seasonal thermospheric wind variations at Arequipa, Peru, conducted in moderate solar flux levels and low geomagnetic activity from March to August in 1983 and April to October in 1988, has yielded monthly-average meridional winds that are nearly zero and perhaps fluctuating in direction during the night, but then developing a southward flow at 50-100 m/sec in the early and late night from May onward. A comparison of the present results with earlier satellite measurements indicates generally good agreement at the equinox and the June solstice, except in June, 1988. A comparison is made with wind patterns over the same two periods at Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
