Following a perfect launch on Ariane 5 the XMM-Newton observatory has been operating in Space for over four months. This period has been occupied by commissioning and calibration observations. The three EPIC cameras are working to specification returning spectroscopic images with FOV 30', optics limited spatial resolution (HEW 14"), and nominal CCD spectral resolution, 140 eV @ 6 keV. There has so far been no observed degradation. Images and spectra from a number of sources are presented from all three cameras. These show the wide spectral bandwidth from 200eV to 10 keV, and the high throughput of the XMM-Newton instruments.
