High-resolution profiles of the electron density Ne and of the magnetic field B are analyzed for a quasi-perpendicular supercritical crossing of the earth's bow shock for which the upstream beta is slightly larger than 1. In a low-frequency range, relevant to the two-fluid MHD approximation, and in a high-frequency range around the downstream proton gyrofrequency f(cid), the magnetic polarization and the correlation between Ne and the component of the magnetic field parallel to the average field are studied. A clear anticorrelation between Ne and B(parallel) is found in the downstream part of the overshoot.
