The metal-rich end of the halo metallicity distribution function is poorly known, but of great interest, because it is related to the metallicities of the satellite galaxies that merged to become part of the Milky Way halo. While halo M giants have been identified for decades, their metallicities are essentially unknown because of the difficulty of modeling their spectra, although to be M giants they should have [Fe/H] ≳ -1. We propose to use M giants in globular clusters with known metallicities, distances, and reddenings to calibrate spectral indices based on molecular features. These indices can then be used to determine the properties of M giants in the halo.
