The review of Compton telescopes emphasizes the potential of gamma-ray emission investigation by focusing on the development of high energy- and spatial-resolution detectors. The general principles of Compton telescopes are listed, and the importance of spectral and spatial resolution are discussed with respect to scattered photon direction and scattering-angle uncertainties. Improvements in spectral resolution directly improve the detector systems' sensitivities to gamma-ray emission lines which can greatly enhance the efficacy of the telescopes.
