Observations of variable stars can test a new model for unexplained oscillations of magnetic, peculiar A stars (cf. Zita, these proceedings). Magnetoacoustic waves in these stars can cause brightness variations on the order of minutes. I will discuss my process of observing variable stars remotely via the Internet, and will present my analysis of the light curve of HD 24712. While the analysis was complicated by a variable reference star, I have developed a method to discover the oscillations of the target star. These techniques can be used in the future to test the model's predictions for oscillations of stars of known size and mean magnetic field strength (cf. Adachi).
