We propose GHRS observations of Canopus (Alpha Car), thenearest (40 pc) supergiant star. Canopus is an early Fsupergiant with a extremely thin convection zone, yet it showssignificant X-ray emission from a very hot corona. UVchromospheric and transition (TR) region emission line fluxeswill be used to determine the emission measure (EM)distribution and radiative losses from these regions, whilethe nonthermal turbulent motions in the TR will be measuredfrom the emission profiles. EUVE and ASCA coronal spectroscopyare also being sought and will allow the coronal temperatureand EM distributions to be established. In conjuction withsimilar data for Beta Dra (G2 Ib-IIa) we shall investigate howthe TR turbulent energy relates to the observed coronal energyinput for supergiants with differing convection zone depths.
