We have recently identified an X-ray/UV ionized absorber inNGC5548 whose physical conditions are well-constrained. Wedetermine a `b' value (velocity spread parameter) of ~ 40 kms^-1, significantly narrower than the measured, partiallyresolved CIV absorption lines (~ 350 km s^-1). In order toconfirm the unification of X-ray and UV absorbers (by directlymeasuring the b value) and to further study the velocitystructure of the probably multi-component absorber, wepropose to obtain high (20 -- 40 km s^-1) resolution dataaround the CIV absorption line.
