Observing time is requested to obtain low-resolution UVspectra of the hot R CrB star V348 Sgr at maximum light anddeep into the ascending portion of its light curve. Thesespectra will be used along with simultaneous opticalspectrophotometry to determine the nature of newly-formedcircumstellar material around this star. V348 Sgr is the onlyobject for which an accurate extinction curve for freshlyejected dust can be determined entirely from observation towavelengths shorter than 2500 Angstrom. An intriguingpossibility is the that signature of fullerenes may beidentifiable in the extinction curve obtained from theseobservations.
