We discuss some recent results concerning the scaling properties of the galaxy distribution. Using the fractal correlation dimension to characterize such properties, two clear scaling regimes become evident: the well-known small-scale D approx 1.2 range extending up to r approx 3.5 h^{-1} Mpc, and a new, large-scale range with D approx 2.2 extending from these separations up to approx 30 h^{-1} Mpc. Consequences of these observations for the origin of structure are briefly discussed.
