By performing an extremely deep imaging survey covering 0.28 square degrees in a 5000Anarrow-band filter, we have identified a sample of 161 candidate Ly(alpha) emission line galaxies at 3.09 < z < 3.13 in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. The continuum magnitudes of these objects are extremely faint, R > 25, and therefore they are not being targeted by ongoing spectroscopic programs. We propose to use the IMACS instrument on Magellan to spectroscopically confirm ~ 100 Ly(alpha) emitters and to measure their spatial correlation function. These observations will a) constrain the mass of the galaxies' dark matter halos, b) probe their star formation history, c) determine the distribution of their stellar wind velocities, and d) determine the fraction of zero-metallicity Population III stars present at this redshift regime. The proposed program takes full advantage of the greatest capability of IMACS - deep multislit spectroscopy of a 27' field. MUSYC is a public survey, and we will release the reduced spectra within six months.
