We understand very little of reconnection in astrophysical plasma, save that it is likely to be very important. For example, it may be primary route through which the kinetic energy of relative motion is finally converted into heat in accretion disks and jets. In addition, reconnection can take place under conditions that are far more extreme than those found in the heliosphere or the laboratory. In particular, astrophysicists are having to consider reconnection in relativistic plasma and under field so strong that Hall effects dominate the electrical conductivity. Examples will be presented of different sites where reconnection can be very important. The role of numerical simulations of increasing sophistication will be emphasized.
