The background signal introduced in present-generation gravitational-wave detectors by high-energy cosmic-ray muons is estimated theoretically. The results are plotted in graphs and briefly characterized. It is found that the secondaries generated in the bar of a sea-level detector by muon EM interaction can produce signals significantly larger than those expected from sources (such as Virgo Cluster supernovae) typically being observed, but that this effect is negligible for deep underground detectors such as those planned for the Gran Sasso Laboratory.
