Three progressive brightenings of very short duration have been observed in an active region, the MacMath region 16865, on the monochromatic image of H alpha-1.2 A. The phenomena have been interpreted as small flares or subflares, and seem to be the optical counterpart of the multiple loop activation detected on the EUV observations of Skylab. Two of the three brightenings, which occurred in two parallel lines almost simultaneously, have been selected for detailed investigation, and the propagation velocity has been measured and discussed.
