The mineralogy of the terrestrial planets is considered in the context of the chemical and physical differentiation of the solar nebula. A theoretical sequence is given for a generalized cosmic composition, accretion of planetesimals is discussed, and questions are raised concerning correlation of bulk planetary composition with heliocentric distance, the chemical homogeneity or inhomogeneity of planetary accretion, crustal bombardment, and oxidation of earth's atmosphere. Some specific questions are posed in connection with the origin and evolution of the moon, the spatial distribution of silicate and metal in Mercury, accretion models for Venus, the core of Mars, the composition of asteroids, and the origin of meteorites.
