We apply Arnowitt, Deser, and Misner (ADM) reduction techniques to Taub's variational principle for self-gravitating, relativistic perfect fluids. We derive conditions upon the fluid configuration which are sufficient to ensure that the constraint equations can be solved for the lapse function and shift vector field. We show that with Taub's coordinate conditions the ADM Hamiltonian is always equal to the total baryon number of the fluid and is thus a conserved quantity. Finally, we derive the Hamiltonian explicitly for the particular equations of state p = (γ-1)ρ.
