Existing theories on the interior of the sun and its evolution are reviewed, and the nuclear reactions and radiative-opacity sources in stars are examined. Certain observational constraints that must be satisfied in the construction of a model sun are formulated, and the need to consider these constraints in the evaluation of the influence of changes on the neutrino flux is demonstrated. Approaches to the comparison between stellar evolution theory and observations are discussed with particular reference to experiments involving neutrino-produced radio isotopes.
