In this work we have calculated the magnetic moment μν of a massive neutrino, to one-pion loop order. If mν varies between ˜3 meV and ˜3 eV and mπ between 0 and ˜140 MeV one obtains values for μν which can compete with the Standard Model result in the chiral limit mπ→0. The photon coupling to the ππ-intermediate state leads to the presence of “chiral singularities” [m-1π- and log(mπ)-terms]. There are no such terms for the W-W+-intermediate state of the Standard Model. As a result μν is particularly sensitive to the mass ratios (mπ/ml,mνl/ml); this indicates to us that all electromagnetic properties of neutrinos (μν,, etc.) are expected to change significantly in a dense or hot medium. Such medium modifications of μν,, etc. are entirely due to the ππ-intermediate state which acts as a “doorway” state for the photon-neutrino coupling.
