A new technique, designated Zeeman-Doppler imaging (ZDI), is described which is based on the rotational modulation study of a rapid rotator Stokes parameter, V(lambda), measured with both high spectral resolution and high S/N. Both the instrumentation and the observing procedure are described which provide S/N values up to 3000 and make it possible to detect unambiguously a magnetic field on the Ap star Epsilon UMa. As a qualifying test for ZDI, a 15-point phase coverage obtained on the well-known magnetic Ap star alpha2CVn (with S/N values of 400-1100) is compared to the results of Borra and Landstreet (1977).
