The O(1S) quantum yield in O2(+) dissociative recombination f(1S) in the nocturnal F-region and processes of O(+) + O2 yields O + O2(+) (v less than or equal to 7) and O2(+)(v) + O yields O2(+)(v prime less than v) + O are discussed. It is pointed out, that the values of the O(1S) quantum yield in O2(+) dissociative recombination f(1S) that have been deduced from the Visible Airglow Experiment do not seem consistent with the values of Guberman (1987) on the alpha(1S,v) direct dissociative recombination coefficients. It is argued that the discrepancy cannot be attributed to an overlooked O(1S) course in the F-region. The correctness of the results of the Visible Airglow Experiment is questioned and the possibility is raised that alpha(1S,0) is affected by the neglected indirect dissociative recombination. It is also noted that laboratory measurements that give f(1S,0) and f(1S,1) are approximately 0.1 at 1000 K must be viewed with caution due to the problems they cause.
