The relationship between the relative content of alpha particles and the hydrodynamic parameters of solar wind is examined with reference to data obtained by the Prognoz-7 satellite. It is found that the content of helium relative to protons is maximum for a solar wind velocity of 400-500 km/s and an ion concentration of 4-7/cu cm and decreases substantially beyond these ranges. The results suggest that, in slow, cold, and dense streams, associated with the closed configuration of the coronal magnetic field, the relative helium content increases with velocity and temperature and decreases with the increasing solar wind concentration. The opposite relation is observed in fast, hot, and less dense streams associated with the open configuration of the coronal magnetic field.
