The paper demonstrates that, in the study of magnetic Ap stars, the proper treatment of the transfer of polarized radiation in Stark broadened hydrogen lines in the presence of a magnetic field is necessary. A formalism for addressing this problem is presented. Consideration is given to the following approximation regimes: (1) the perturbing ions are treated as quasi-static and the Lorentz electric field resulting from the motions of the hydrogen atoms in the magnetic field is neglected, and (2) the Lorentz electric field is accounted for and the ions are treated by the same impact approach as the electrons.
