The degree of elliptical polarization in the light scattered from
noctilucent clouds has been measured at several wavelengths and the
results confirm that the cloud particles must show some degree of
orientation. It is suggested that the needlelike form of crystalline ice
is aerodynamically favoured in the clouds.
