On clear evenings, sky watchers can see satellites traveling across the sky beginning about an hour to 90 minutes after sunset. There are a few hundred satellites that are at least 20 feet in length or fly between 100 and 500 miles altitude, which can be seen without telescopes or binoculars. Satellites fly in a straight line and have no flashing or colored lights. They appear as a point of light and last two to five minutes before disappearing into the Earth's shadow. The articles provides Internet resources where readers can get information on how to view satellites from their own locations.
