The current baseline of the Eddington mission is described, regarding both its science goals as well as its implementation. This baseline mission is mostly the results of the feasibility studies conducted in the course of 2000, which led to the mission's selection in September 2000. Several study activities, both at the industrial level and at the scientific level are currently ongoing, aiming at a full, phase A mission definition by the end of 2002.
