MT Ser, the central star of the planetary nebula Abell 41, shows photometric variations with a period of P1 = 2h 43m (Grauer & Bond 1983, ApJ, 271, 259). They are interpreted as due to a reflection effect in a close binary consisting of a compact hot component and a cool star (Model 1). This configuration would make MT Ser the pre-cataclysmic variable with the shortest known orbital period. However, an alternative scenario of a system consisting of two hot subdwarfs in an orbit with period P2 = 2 P1 is also possible (Model 2). The light curve can then be explained by ellipsoidal variations and (partial) eclipses.
