First results from the analysis of XMM-Newton observations of Intermediate Polars (IPs) are presented. XMM-Newton data revealed the spin period of the new hard IP 1RXS J154814.5--452845 which was discovered in the ROSAT Galactic Plane Survey. The EPIC PN and MOS spectra show the presence of soft components. Blackbody-like emission, similar to that seen in soft IPs -- however through higher absorption, probably arises from the white dwarf surface. A multi-temperature thermal emission component with temperatures up to 60 keV likely originates in the cooling post-shock region of the accretion curtain. The EPIC spectra of RX J1712.6--2414 are very similar to those of 1RXS J154814.5--452845. The blackbody emission seen from these "hard" IPs suggests that this component exists in the spectra of all IPs and dominates the soft X-ray emission in "soft" IPs due to low absorption.
