This paper describes calculations of the global production rates of the energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) in the magnetosphere and their association with the Dst index on the basis of quantitative numerical simulations. We simulate an idealized moderate storm and calculate the total ENA production rates with energies between 3.8 and 160.4 keV. For energies less than 30 keV, the production rates are approximately proportional to Dst for both the storm main and the recovery phases. For energies greater than 30 keV, the total production rates do not show any clear correlation with Dst and demonstrate oscillations with the corresponding drift period and beatings.
