Radioactive nuclear beams have been produced at the K500 superconducting cyclotron of Texas A&M University using transfer reactions induced by heavy projectiles of E/A = 18-35 MeV/nucleon on a cryogenic hydrogen gas target. The desired products were separated with the recoil separator MARS to obtain beam intensities of 10^5-10^6 particles/sec and purities of 98-99%. So far, ^7Be, ^11C, ^20F and ^20Na beams have been produced. The ^7Be and ^11C beams have been used to investigate questions in nuclear astrophysics, while the ^20F and ^20Na beams have been used to study the isospin dependence of nuclear reaction mechanisms. Production of the beams and their characteristics will be presented. The results of determinations of the S factor for ^7Be(p,γ)^8B at zero energy using transfer reactions induced by radioactive ^7Be beams will also be presented.
