MHD problems involving the interaction of the solar wind with the earth's magnetosphere on the dayside are investigated, and satellite data on the dayside magnetopause crossing are analyzed. It is shown that the observed regularities may be accounted for by means of MHD flow theory with consideration of the stagnation line at the nose of the magnetosphere. The value of beta in the vicinity of the subsolar point of the magnetosphere is estimated, and the formation of two types of stagnation lines is explained.
