The fact that supernova-produced Al-26 is the only known physical heat source for lunar core melting is adduced to support the hypothesis that the formation of the solar system was preceded by a supernova explosion occurring no more than a few million years earlier. The possibility that a transuranic isotope with a half life near 100 Myr caused the lunar core melting is discounted.
