Spectra showing the distribution of 6-cm H2CO and 18-cm OH absorption in the direction of Cas A have been obtained with a resolution of 2.6 and 8 arcmin, respectively. Large variations are seen across the source. No discrepancies appear between the OH and H2CO spectra that cannot be ascribed to the difference in telescope resolution. Contour maps of formaldehyde absorption are similar to high-resolution maps of H I absorption at small negative velocities in the Perseus-arm region but differ from H I maps at large negative velocities.
