In this contribution I will quickly review our current knowledge on the central source of the bipolar proto-planetary nebula (pPN) OH 231.8+4.2, focusing on the possibility that the Mira variable QX Pup may have no direct relationship with the nebula. This hypothesis is based on the large displacement between the well known position of the SiO masers and the axis of symmetry of the nebula. Pros and cons of this scenario are also discussed.
