The 2005 apparition of Mars has been richly observed by amateurs around the world. The data obtained is of very high quality, mainly due to the widespread use of black-and-white CCD cameras - while in 2003 the color chips dominated (part I). Many phenomenons can be observed. On the surface, although few cap detail was visible due to the season (southern summer), real martian relief is detected and a so far largely unnoticed phenomena of darker areas in violet light is detected (part II). Finally, the most interesting event was the advent of a superb regional dust storm in late october 2005, which can be understood with the "cross-equatorial" storms model (from MGS data, part III).
