Scientific paper
In the near infrared band (λλ8100 to 8725 Å), the spectra of 10 S-type symbiotic stars and 27 K-M type comparison stars have been observed with a moderate dispersion of 33 Å mm-1, the resolving power R = λ/δλ > 4000, signal to noise ratio S/N > 100. All the ten bright symbiotic stars are class III giants, none of them presents the features of a bright giant or supergiant.
