The scattering properties, including both intensity and polarization, of the dust mixture which were found to provide the best fit to the observed interstellar extinction are calculated. Simple empirical parameters necessary to approximately describe all elements of the scattering matrix are derived. The reflection of polarized light from an optically thick slab of dust were theoretically calculated. Observations of polarization in the Orion Nebula are interpreted with a model consisting of a hemispherical shell of dust in front of an optically thick slab in an effort to learn something about the single-scattering polarization properties of interstellar grains.
