For plasma composition measurements in space, the usual magnet spectrometers are increasingly replaced by time-of-flight (TOF) instruments. The authors have developed a prototype for a cylindrical, high-resolution (M/ΔM > 50) isochronous TOF-mass spectrometer, to be used in combination with an electrostatic energy-analyzer. They present numerical simulations and first experimental results.
