The lunar daily variations of the ionospheric total electron content observed at Lunping, which lies close to the crest zone of the so called equatorial anomaly, were computed by the Chapman-Miller method. The lunar semi-diurnal variation of TEC was found to be explainable by the additional fountain effect caused by the lunar semi-diurnal electric field induced at the equator. A similarity in the lunar daily variations of TEC and F2 critical frequency was also found.
