The physics of the outer heliosphere is strongly influenced by the ionization of the Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC) in which the heliosphere is embedded. That ionization is largely determined by the diffuse extreme ultraviolet radiation field in the very local interstellar medium. Since we have no direct observations of the diffuse EUV background we must rely on models to estimate its spectrum. We discuss the inputs and assumptions used in our models for the ionizing radiation generated at the boundary between the LIC and the hot gas of the Local Bubble that surrounds it.
