Consideration is given to the site of emission from a rigidly rotating source in the magnetosphere of pulsars. The spectral distribution of the radiation emitted from a rotating electric current distribution is calculated in terms of the retarded solution of the inhomogeneous Maxwell equations, taking into account the quasi-static condition on frequency changes. It is shown that electromagnetic radiation of frequency much greater than the angular frequency of the neutron star is produced predominantly by the electric currents at the light cylinder of the magnetosphere. This result is noted to be independent of the mechanism by which the radiation is emitted and the effects of the plasma through which it propagates, and to apply to all magnetospheric models which are quasi-static and contain a plasma distribution length scale on the order of the ratio of the speed of light to the neutron star angular rotation frequency.
